Barbara Secours
A native of Val-D’Or, Québec, Barbara Secours is a singer and composer who has had an amazing journey. Born into a family of musicians, she discovered her passion for singing with her church choir at the tender age of 8. Soon she was in the recording studio, exploring different ways to interpret her uncle’s compositions. When she was 9 years old she gave her first on-stage performance and immediately fell in love with show business. At 14, Barbara moved to Québec City and joined the troupe “Crescendo”, with whom she participated in concerts, studio recordings, television shows and her first European tour.
At age 17, Barbara began her studies in classical singing at Cégep de Sainte-Foy in Québec. The following year, she took a vocal jazz ensemble course and fell in love with jazz music. This initial meeting with jazz motivated her to continue her studies in jazz singing at Cégep St-Laurent in Montréal. A former student of Danielle Richard, Jean-Pierre Zanella and Lucille Dumont, she continues to hone her skills by studying scat singing inspired by artists such as Karen Young, Bobby McFerrin and Al Jarreau. Multi-talented Barbara started the new millennium singing and dancing in the musical «Sing 2000» presented at the Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville (Ontario), for a total of 250 performances. This invaluable experience strengthened her stage presence and popularity. Since then, Barbara has delighted passengers on AML Cruises as well as vacationers at Club Med World, the Tremblant Club in the Laurentians, the luxurious Armstrong in Casablanca (Morocco), the Indian Head Resort in New Hampshire (U.S.), at the prestigious casinos in Charlevoix and Montréal, and at the well known jazz club House of Jazz (Biddle’s). She has had the privilege of collaborating with European superstars K-Maro and Shy’m and has lent her talents as a back-up vocalist to recordings and performances with artists such as Bob Walsh, Sylvie Desgroseillers, Imposs and Ale Dee to mention a few.
On July 3rd 2005 Barbara had the opportunity to perform some of her compositions at the Jazz Festival of Montreal. This wonderful experience gave Barbara the motivation to work even more actively on her compositions and here is the result! Accompanied by John Sadowy on piano, Jean-François Beaudet on guitar, Karl Surprenant on double bass and Max Sansalone on drums, Barbara offers us an album full of sweetness and some pleasant surprises that will transport you into her world.
